    The Uniformed Services Environmental Health Association (USEHA) proudly announces its annual Technical Educational Program and Business Meeting to be held during the NEHA Annual Educational Conference (AEC) & Exhibition (see: https://www.neha.org/neha-2022-annual-educational-conference-aec-exhibition/why-attend). The specific location/room for the USEHA presentations is to be determined

     

    USEHA is seeking presentations that address the latest advances and concerns in environmental/public health that are associated with the uniformed services. The areas of interest cover the broad spectrum of environmental health disciplines to include, but are not limited to, base, post, and installation activities; field and line activities; research and development initiatives; deployments; and other related areas.

    SELF NOMINATIONS FOR USEHA EXECUTIVE COUNCIL - DUE 05 APRIL 2021


    Are you looking for more leadership opportunities, a resume builder, and an opportunity to interact with fellow environmental health professionals from the uniformed services? Now is your opportunity to submit a self-nomination to serve on the Uniformed Services Environmental Health Association (USEHA) Executive Council. 


    We are now accepting self-nominations for the following positions in the upcoming 2021 USEHA Officer Elections:

    • President-Elect: Term as President-Elect begins July 2021. This person commits to serving as the President beginning in June/July of 2023. The individual may be from any Uniformed Service, including retirees, except active duty Army, as the current President-Elect is an Army officer.
    • Vice President: Individual may be from any Uniformed Service, including retirees; term begins July 2021.
    • Secretary/Treasurer: Individual may be from any Uniformed Service, including retirees; term begins July 2021.

    Term lengths are for two full years. The Vice President may serve two successive terms. Candidates for officer positions must be both NEHA and USEHA members in good standing with the organization. 


    Send self-nominations to LCDR Steven Galvez at steven.galvez@fda.hhs.govThe self-nomination should include your name, rank, branch of service, the position you wish to be elected to, and a brief statement (less than a page) explaining why you wish to serve in the position. You must include a statement that you have obtained supervisory approval to commit to a limited number of hours per month during the regular workday as an officer of USEHA. Nominations are due 05APR2021.

    The Uniformed Services Environmental Health Association (USEHA) proudly announces its annual Technical Educational Program to be held during the NEHA Annual Educational Conference & Exhibition (AEC). Due to COVID-19 restrictions, NEHA is presenting its AEC as a three-part virtual series (see: https://www.neha.org/neha-2021-annual-educational-conference-aec-exhibition-three-part-virtual-series). The USEHA presentations will occur during a 3-hour period on Tuesday, 1 June 2021. USEHA is seeking presentations that address the latest advances and concerns in environmental/public health that are associated with the uniformed services. The areas of interest cover the broad spectrum of environmental health disciplines to include, but are not limited to, base, post, and installation activities; field and line activities; research and development initiatives; deployments; and other related areas. Due to the time limitations, presentations should be limited to 25 minutes, including 5 minutes for questions (also see “Information for Presenters” at the NEHA AEC website).

    POLL DESCRIPTION:

    This electronic ballot is being circulated in lieu of an in-person vote normally conducted at the USEHA Business meeting at the NEHA AEC.

    The following changes to the Constitution and By-Laws of the Uniformed Services Environmental Health Association have been proposed. The existing language is given first followed by the proposed language, with a brief explanation as to why the change is being sought.

    BY-LAWS: ARTICLE II – SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES

    Existing Language: One Service Representative from each Uniformed Service will be appointed by the President. One additional Service Representative shall also be appointed to represent retired members of the Association. Service Representatives will be appointed for a term of two (2) years and may be reappointed for one additional term.


    Proposed Language: (Add) If a service representative is not able to attend a meeting of the executive council they must assign a proxy to represent them at the meeting/conference call and/or submit service updates by e-mail to the president in a timely manner before the meeting. If a service representative has not participated in at least half the meetings/calls during the year, they must resign from the position and a new representative appointed.


    Justification: To address the issue of service member representatives not participating in regularly scheduled meetings.


    Ballot will close on Monday, 9 November

    We have received official confirmation that the NEHA board of directors has, after careful deliberation centered on COVID-19, made the difficult but necessary decision to cancel the 84th Annual Educational Conference (AEC) & Exhibition scheduled for July 13–16 in New York City. In the meantime, be sure to mark your calendar for the 2021 AEC in beautiful Spokane, Washington, July 12-15, 2021.


    For your information:

    • Registration: All 2020 AEC conference registrations, preconference workshop registrations, and special event registrations will automatically be refunded. Full registration refunds will be made based on when NEHA received the most recent payment. Once your registration cancellation is processed, you will receive confirmation via e-mail. You do not need to contact NEHA to initiate the refund process.
    • Hotel and Travel: Please cancel any personal arrangements you have made, such as travel and housing reservations at the Sheraton New York Times Square or any secondary hotel. If you booked the Sheraton New York Times Square through the Passkey, please visit the website and choose "Manage Existing Reservations" to cancel your reservation.  
    • Professional Credentials: NEHA is working on a plan for maintaining professional credentials and continuing education. Details will be announced upon finalization. Additionally, free access to NEHA E-learning is being made available to all environmental health professionals regardless of membership status until June 30, 2020, to earn your CE contact hours.
